January

Sunday 29 Jan  Historic Environment Record & Maps

The Hive

We'll investigate how archaeologists use maps when they are carrying out their research, and the information which is contained within the Historic Environment Record.

February

Sunday 12 Feb  Bromsgrove Museum

We'll be visiting this museum, which has recently reopened, to explore what they have within their collections

March

Sun 19 March  Ronkswood Meadow

Although within the City of Worcester and people go past it every day without paying much attention, it contains remains of medieval ridge and furrow and WWII defences if you know what to look for

April

April  Archaeology fieldwork

We are investigating options for having a go at digging and learning archaeological skills

May

Sunday 15 May  Goodrich Castle

We have a family Day for this out of county visit. We have hardly any castles in Worcestershire so we will pop over the border into Herefordshire to explore this fantastic castle.

June

Sunday 19 June  Environmental Archaeology

The Hive

Environmental archaeology looks at the remains found in the soil - pollen, insects and other evidence which can only be found under a microscope and after washing buckets of soil.

We'll also be presenting the Alan Jacobs Award for Young Archaeologist of the Year.

July

Sunday 9 July  Forge Mill & Bordesley Abbey, Redditch

This site contains both the remains of a medieval Abbey, and also an old needle factory, two very different but important parts of the story of Redditch.

August

NO MEETING IN AUGUST - EVERYONE IS ON HOLIDAY!

September

Sunday 24 Sept  Archaeological Skills - Building Recording

Shrub Hill Station

We'll have a go at recording parts of this railway station in the same way that archaeologists would, and find out what we can tell from this building.

October

Sunday 15 Oct  Family Walk

Another family walk exploring some of the archaeological landscape of the country

November

Sunday 19 Nov  A Taste of the Past

What did people eat in the past and what can we tell from human remains about their diet? There'll be the chance to have a go at some historic recipes.

December

Sunday 10 Dec  Christmas Party
