Northwick project shortlisted for national award

WYAC celebrate at the British Academy, London We are delighted to announce that WYAC's very own Northwick Manor Community Heritage Project made it through to the final three nominations for a prestigious national award.

The Marsh Archaeology Award 'recognises and celebrates voluntary groups or individuals who have been responsible over the last two years for looking after and promoting access to the historic environment within the UK'.

Representatives of the project team headed down to the British Academy on March 7th to give a short talk about the project and to be presented with a certificate of commendation for the role the project took in engaging local people with the fascinating historic environment of Northwick and Bevere.

The Award was eventually made to the Dartmoor Cairn Survey and Repair Project who involved members of the local community in recording and repairing of a large number of Cairn monuments. WYAC were highly commended as runner-up - well done to all who took part!

For further information on the award to the Council for British Archaeology's website here; http://www.britarch.ac.uk/news/110311-MarshWinner.

Congratulations to all our members, to the local people of Northwick and Bevere and to all the organisations who worked so hard to make this project a success!
